i just came across this amazing photographer recently , i should had discovered him years ago instead!

Lily and spiral staircase, India, 2005

the dress, lamp tree, England, 2002

Tim Walker is a London based fashion photographer who has established himself at the cutting edge of fashion photography.

Kristen Mcmenamy, UK, 2011

Olga Sherer, England, 2007

his images are very inspiring, imaginative and evoking using stunning sets and themes; telling a story and capturing moments

Scarlett Johansson as Tipi Hendren from Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Birds', USA, 2010

by the way, have you watch Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Birds' before ?(゚-゚)  it's a 1963 suspense movie which i watched maybe around 9 or 10 years ago? it's actually quite remarkable and i wouldn't mind recommending watching. even now, a sight of black crows would just remind me of that movie. ((・⊥・))

Lily Cole and giant pearls, England, 2004

for these images,it's quite obvious how he likes to play with proportions and collages; blurring the lines between the subjects and the secondary

Coco Rocha and giant glove, London, 2006

Lily Cole and giant watering can, 2004

sometimes juxtaposing the subject with what seems quite deviant but yet so magnificent; captivating the beauty and even the smallest details i would say,

Lily Cole, earthquake damage, India, 2005

Tim Walker creates absolutely original photographs.

it was mentioned that she was inspired by the song 'MacArthur Park' from the sixties

i just love the ambiance of the photos
yes, ambiance is the one-word i usually use to describe
and just to understand the concept more
i did a search on the song o(≧▽≦)o

i think she did a quite straight-forward interpretation of the song into her photo-shoot
but amazing work anyway

'Everyday light draws for us...but we never realized... The graphics on the whole set come from the real shadow so that all objects are related to each other and when using it you will discover all of them.'

Martina Hoogland Ivanow - a Sweden-born photographer i came across while i was doing research on the photo-shoot for my third year collection 'Stranger to Ourselves'.

for GHOST campaign

i love how her works are always filled with warm saturated colors, creating vague images creating vague images in a moody darkness ambiance; yet somehow soft and romantic in a way

just so mesmerizing

it's quite obvious that my ambiance photo-shoot for that collection was very much influenced by her works, with the help of a student photographer (that time) Alexandra Bergman, who is from Sweden as well (how coincidence!).

i found her through Flickr and i must say, it's like the best and right place for design students looking for collaborations. Looking through works of thousands of people and it was her works that captured me so i contacted her, hoping for a collaboration.

so anyway.. some works from Martina Hoogland Ivanow

~ inspiration ~ Madeleine Vionnet

Madeleine Vionnet (1876 – 1975) was a French fashion designer that is influential in the 20th century and inspired me as much as Madame Gres.

photograph by Irving Penn for Vionnet, 1974

she was known for introducing bias-cutting into pattern making.
it is indeed a revolutionary way of draping fabric, clinging on the body beautifully - simple but never plain.

Vionnet's goddess gown, 1935; recalling the Greek look

in the early 20th century, she freed women from corsets and bustles that distorted the body form in exchange for garments that accentuated the natural body form.
inspired by ancient greek drapery and dancer's movement where fabrics seemed to be flowing around the human body.

Madeleine Vionnet at work, 1923

Vionnet worked less in innovative structure but more in crafted draping.
her lengthening process included cutting and draping -all on her miniature wooden doll.
she would use yards and yards of fabrics just to construct a dress.

Vionnet established her maison in 1912 but was forced to close down during second world war.
this classic French house was revived in 2006 and continue to unveil collections by creating modern looks while paying homage to Vionnet's originality.

yesterday
when i was writing the posts about dolls

thoughts just arose
back to my study days
staring at the computer, sitting in the library
looking through books after books

finding designers and artists that influenced and inspired me
to textualize my works

lots of those information were long lost due to the crash of my computer (now that's what happened when you depend everything on it!)

some were saved to my hard disc (lucky)and i actually brought it along with me from Mel to Perth!

flipping through folders after folders, pictures after pictures that i almost forget

i would like to share them with you too
here is one to go

Man Ray (1890-1976)was a Modernist artist best known for his photography. He played a main role in the Dada and Surrealist movements.

"The same sleep and the same dream, the same mysterious magic seem to unite across time and space these two female masks with closed eyes: one of which was created at some point in time by an African sculptor in black ebony, the other, no less perfect, made up yesterday in Paris."

i am always obsessed with dolls-theme
i had exploited this theme for one of my collection during studies
i even wrote a thesis ; vaguely related to this theme too

still
i don't look into the happy-looking-side of dolls
instead
i turn to the dark-menacing-side

stars were photographed in designers clothing alongside a collection of dolls for Vogue Korea December 2011 issue
in fact, i had noticed that they were actually styled into the signature look of each designers (themselves too). if you look at the photos, you can pretty much easily tell which pieces belong to which designer
